WHAT IS THE CHAMBER OF TRADE? |
The Burnley & District Chamber of Trade represents trade and retail enterprises by protecting and advancing the interests of its members. It is non-political and reserves the right to oppose or support any or none of the local or national legislation authorities in full support of its member’s interests. |
HOW DOES IT WORK? |
Financed by subscriptions, the Chamber is controlled by a democratically elected council of volunteer members. |
WHY DO WE NEED A CHAMBER OF TRADE? |
| In order that the collective voice of trading may influence both local and national Government and statutory authorities to a degree that no individual can draw advice and committee members when representation is needed. |
WHERE DOES THE INDIVIDUEL COME IN? |
By being a member, the individual shares in the responsibility for the continued development of Burnley/Padiham and surrounding areas. As a member, you would enjoy a first class business information service and have the opportunity to present your problems, major or minor, to a Council of experienced local business people who can guide you through, or make representation on your behalf. You may wish to take a more active role in decision making and offer your service on the Council. |
DOES IT WORK? |
Much of the Chamber’s work goes unpublished at the request of members, but over the years I have listened to requests for help with problems which seemed insurmountable and have seen them channelled to a satisfactory conclusion. The Chamber has promoted parking facilities in our area and continues to monitor the number of places, both on and off street to ensure that motorists are adequately catered for. The Chamber has removed unfair trading advantages and fought hard against one-day sales which no longer take place in publicly owned buildings. We work closely with Borough Council Officers, the Police and other organisations. |
